Key observations:
  • The number of people per one person employed in sport indicates how many residents of a given country are supported by one person employed in sport. The lower the value of the indicator is, the better access to sport activities people theoretically have.
  • There is one country with less than 100 people per one person employed in sport. It is Iceland (92).
  • There is one country with more than 1000 people per one person employed in sport. It is Romania (1607). It is more than 17 times more than in Iceland.
  • In 22 out of 30 analysed countries (73%) the number of people per one person employed in sport is less than 500.

Sport encompasses "all forms of physical activity which, through casual or organised participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels". Source: Eurostat (latest available data).
